t is remarkably quiet at the Royal Belgian Pigeon Fanciers' Association (KBDB) when it comes to the sporting organization leading up to the national flight from Bourges on July 29, which also includes young pigeons. Today, July 8, there are almost no young pigeons entered for the semi-long distance flight from Sermaises. This is because fanciers have started playing their young pigeons later than usual, and those who have already started the season are saving their young pigeons due to the harsh weather conditions of recent weeks. Once again, the discussion arises as to why the semi-long distance requires two nights of basketing. There are even reports that some fanciers argue against organizing national flights for young pigeons, but these are probably fanciers who do not participate in these national races.
In the province of Flemish Brabant, however, it remains remarkably quiet, and people adhere to the established program. Perhaps this is not a bad choice to avoid offending anyone. Ultimately, it is the fanciers who decide whether or not to participate in the flights of the established program. There have been rumors about the necessity of a flight program. It is striking that fanciers are keeping quiet and not entering their young pigeons (in large numbers) for the semi-long distance races. This may be a signal that a sporting change is necessary to ensure the optimal conditions for the young pigeon season. Next week, Orleans from the Brabantse-Unie is scheduled with young pigeons, which is an even greater distance than Sermaises. Who will participate in this race with young pigeons? Fanciers wonder how they can prepare for the national race from Bourges on July 29 with the current program. Considering the current circumstances, is Bourges scheduled too early?
Perhaps it is time for the national sports committee to address this issue and adjust the sporting calendar in consultation with the various provincial entities (PEs) regarding the young pigeons. It is difficult for us to determine how this sporting organization should look, as it is a challenge to satisfy everyone. Should the program leading up to Bourges be modified? Would that solve all the problems? After all, we also do not know what the weather will be like in the coming weeks. Or should Bourges be postponed by 14 days and one less national flight be organized for young pigeons, allowing all fanciers to prepare for the rest of the season with their young pigeons in peace? Completely canceling national flights for young pigeons, as some suggest, seems excessive to us. However, something needs to be done, at the very least a communication from the KBDB expressing their stance on the situation and the possible measures/organization they will or will not take. There is work to be done for the KBDB and the various PEs in the coming days.
Note: Regarding the flights with young pigeons on July 8, Momignies is proceeding smoothly, and Nanteuil will remain open for a longer period. Click here to view the registrations for these flights.
