During the last national general meeting of the KBDB on October 20, it was decided by a large majority to split the national championship of speed into a national championship for small and large speed. This is somewhat surprising, given the number of pigeons that decreases annually on all flights.
There was a general expectation that in the short term one would switch to only one speed flight per weekend, given the number of pigeon lovers and the number of pigeons that decrease annually. By playing only one speed flight per weekend, you would have more pigeons on speed, which would make these flights more attractive. Also for the 1/2 fund and heavy 1/2 fund it seems that the KBDB has to intervene and maybe organize a 1/2 fund every 14 days and a national flight every other 14 days.
However, as we often hear on television, and especially on channel one, it is fun to be a champion. Do you want more enthusiasts on the national days of the KBDB? By automatically calculating the national championships, it is not certain that all classified national champions will go to Mechelen to collect their trophy.
Maybe it is better to play all flights in the future in national sectors and then you can honor next to the national champions per category also the national champions per sector on each category on the national days. In this way you could honor champions from all national sectors every year, because being a champion is fun!
