Omer Hooylaerts wins national Vierzon young pigeons!

Early Birds from Vierzon in Scherpenheuvel!

In almost all national races, various enthusiasts from the United Friends of Scherpenheuvel clocked early birds. Although a national victory was always just out of reach, Gommaire Verbruggen and Jef Van Winkel clocked first nationally in the zone three and one times respectively. The dream of a national victory remained alive, but they were already very satisfied with the early arrivals in almost all national races in Scherpenheuvel.

The release of the pigeons in Vierzon was postponed on Saturday, and it was a wait until Sunday at 10 AM before the 22,672 pigeons, including 5,780 old and 16,892 young pigeons, could be released. The tension rose as they hoped to clock early birds in this national race as well.

The first reports came from Poussart Olivier from Vaulx-lez-Chimay, and a quarter of an hour later, Veulemans-Perrileux from Vissenaken clocked a young pigeon in the national top. The nerves increased, and they looked forward to seeing who in Scherpenheuvel could join the top of the results. At 15:49:56, Omer Hooylaerts from Houwaart clocked his pigeon BE-24-2089752 with a speed of 1307.66 m/min. Although this young pigeon could not match the old pigeon of Poussart, the hope for a national victory grew as the minutes passed and no other pigeons were clocked in Scherpenheuvel.

After half an hour of waiting, it was almost certain that Omer could add the national victory for young pigeons from Vierzon to his record. The first calls from the press came in, signaling that the national victory was secured. The phone was ringing off the hook with congratulations and requests from the press to visit. It was a busy period for the enthusiast after achieving such a national victory.

What makes this national victory even more beautiful is that neighbor and champion Ariën-De Keyser, whose loft is only 500 meters away, achieved second place nationally for young pigeons. This young pigeon was basketed in the local club of De Jonge Liefhebbers Testelt. The story becomes even more impressive when we hear that the national winner of Omer Hooylaerts is 100% Ariën-De Keyser on the mother’s side. An impressive performance by the neighbors from Houwaart in this national race from Vierzon!

But it was not only Omer who achieved a national victory; in Scherpenheuvel, they clocked no less than seven pigeons in the top 100 nationally from Vierzon. Nick Cockx from Tielt-Winge made a very nice result with the 38th, 49th, and 51st places nationally against 16,892 young pigeons, which means no less than three young pigeons in the top 50 nationally! Tim Van Roy from Scherpenheuvel and Jef Van Winkel from Tielt-Winge also clocked early pigeons nationally from Vierzon and placed in the top 100 nationally!

After several top national prizes and national victories in the zone, it was now a national victory from Vierzon. This honor went to none other than Omer Hooylaerts, the friendly garage owner from Houwaart. Congratulations to Omer and all the other enthusiasts who are making a name for themselves in Scherpenheuvel. This is a season they will not soon forget!
