On August 10th, we basketed 412 young pigeons in Scherpenheuvel for the national flight from Bourges. A week later, that number had already significantly decreased, and only 175 young pigeons were basketed. This illustrates how tough the past season has been. Each year, we see that conditions become more challenging with hot temperatures and headwinds for the pigeons. In the past season, a record was even broken: the most postponed flights, never before had there been so many postponed flights in one season!
Gommaire Verbruggen from Scherpenheuvel and Jef Van Winkel from Tielt-Winge had already come close to achieving a national victory, but did not succeed in 2024. Gommaire did achieve three national victories in the zone, and Jef Van Winkel achieved one national victory in the zone. In Scherpenheuvel, there was hope for a national victory, but with only a few national flights left, hope was slowly fading.
However, on August 18th, the national victory became a reality! Omer Hooylaerts from Houwaart managed to achieve the national victory against 16,892 young pigeons. Omer clocked his young pigeon 2089752-2024 at 15:49:56 and achieved the national victory with a speed of 1307.6605 m/min. Tim Van Roy from Scherpenheuvel achieved an impressive second place in the local result, while Nick Cockx from Tielt-Winge achieved third, fourth, and fifth place in the local result. The enthusiasts from Tielt-Winge, who made the switch to Scherpenheuvel during the season, played very well and will have to be taken into account in the upcoming 2025 season.
Roger Vandegaer from Scherpenheuvel also achieved 50% prize with his young pigeons in the second national flight with the young pigeons. However, Gommaire Verbruggen achieved 83.33% prize (5/6), and Jef Van Winkel also achieved more than 45% prize with his young pigeons.
