Impact of Avian Flu on Pigeon Racing Season

Date: March 7, 2025

Scherpenheuvel, Belgium With the recent increase in avian flu cases in Europe, including Belgium and France, the French pigeon association and authorities have decided to ban pigeon releases on French territory until April 10th. This means that pigeon releases from France can only resume from April 12th. Unfortunately, avian flu impacts the pigeon racing season every year, and 2025 is no different.

In Belgium, pigeon releases can continue as planned for the time being. The first race is scheduled for Saturday, March 29th, from Momignies. The planned training flights from Belgium will also go ahead. Please keep an eye on our page for any updates.

Yours in sport,
Board of VV Scherpenheuvel
