Pigeon Enthusiasts from Scherpenheuvel Shine at PE Vlaams-Brabant Champions Ceremony

On Sunday, March 16, PE Vlaams-Brabant celebrated the champions of the 2024 season with a festive ceremony. This event highlighted the impressive achievements of the pigeon fanciers from the Vereniging Vrienden Scherpenheuvel club, who excelled in various areas.

One of the most remarkable highlights was the national victory of Omer Hooylaerts from Houwaart. With a win from Vierzon on August 18, 2025, against 16,892 young pigeons, he demonstrated his exceptional skills. This triumph adds to previous national victories in the zone achieved by other enthusiasts, emphasizing the exceptional strength of this pigeon club.

In the national zone competitions for the 2024 season, Gommaire Verbruggen from Scherpenheuvel took the spotlight by achieving no less than three national victories. His performance in the challenging middle-distance races was unmatched, solidifying his excellent season. Jef Vanwinkel from Tielt-Winge and Omer Hooylaerts also secured national wins in the zone.

The results in the ace pigeon competitions were equally impressive. Geert Beken from Scherpenheuvel claimed fourth place as the provincial ace pigeon in the small speed category for young pigeons. Gommaire Verbruggen earned second place as the provincial ace pigeon in the large middle-distance category with older pigeons.

Georges De Keyser from Messelbroek crowned himself as the provincial champion in the large middle-distance category for young pigeons, first and second nominated, with a remarkable score of 8 points.

In the youth and beginners championship of the past season, Tim Van Roy from Scherpenheuvel delivered an impressive performance. In only his second season as an independent fancier, he managed to qualify and confirmed his exceptional talent. In the large middle-distance category, Tim Van Roy crowned himself as champion, showcasing his dedication and remarkable achievements. Additionally, he earned the title of ace pigeon in the large middle-distance category for yearlings, highlighting his versatility and strategic approach in pigeon racing.

Now that the championship celebration is behind them, the enthusiasts are eagerly preparing for the start of the new season. A heartfelt congratulations to all the champions!
