The 2025 pigeon racing season has kicked off in Scherpenheuvel, thanks to the first competition flight from Momignies. Following a challenging training flight and less favorable weather forecasts at the beginning of the week, most enthusiasts decided to register only on Friday for this competition. The improved weather forecasts for the weekend played a crucial role in this decision.
In total, 115 old pigeons were entered by 8 enthusiasts, of which 85 were yearlings. After the registration, the pigeons could be loaded to be transported to the release site in Momignies. The weather was favorable: it was sunny with plenty of sunshine, but the morning temperatures were cold. Eventually, the 882 old pigeons from sector 2 Flemish Brabant were released at 9:50 AM in Momignies.
The first clocked old pigeon was recorded at 11:18.330 by Johnny in Rillaar, securing the win in Scherpenheuvel with a speed of 1309.2377 m/min. This result placed him third in the sector against 882 old pigeons. Georges De Keyser from Messelbroek finished second by clocking two pigeons on the same second.
The two first pigeons clocked by Johnny were also strong performers last season and have not missed a beat in the new season, securing Johnny's first victory. With this, the 2025 season has officially begun in Scherpenheuvel. Next week, registration will take place again for Momignies, and the 2025 championships will commence. The tension is already high for the upcoming competitions.
