Marc Van Opsterwyck Triumphs in Momignies and Takes a Flying Start to the Season

On Saturday, April 5th, the first SUPER BONVLUCHT of the new season took place.** For this special competition, a total of 409 pigeons were basketed in Scherpenheuvel by 25 participants. In addition to the regular prizes, members and associate members could take part in the bonvlucht with a small contribution of €0.50 per pigeon. This gave them the chance to win vouchers worth €6, €4, and €2. The popular guarantee pool had an excellent start, with as many as 52 pigeons registered for the prize pool of €2.50.

Under ideal weather conditions — a radiant sun and cool morning temperatures rising to 18 degrees by noon — the pigeons from Scherpenheuvel were released along with over 2,800 pigeons from sector 2 at Momignies at 9:10 a.m. It was an exciting competition with strong performances.

Marc Van Opsterwyck from Testelt once again demonstrated that he is in a class of his own. He clocked his winning old pigeon at 10:46.25, securing first place in Scherpenheuvel against 409 pigeons with a speed of 1274.3232 meters per minute. His second pigeon, clocked nearly two minutes later, earned him the second position with a speed of 1250.9669 meters per minute. In the Samenspel Hageland, Marc also claimed first and third places against 669 old pigeons. At the sector level, he achieved 48th and 109th places against 2,895 pigeons with these performances.

The top five in Scherpenheuvel was completed by Guido Broos from Tielt-Winge, followed by Willy Nomans in fourth place and Georges De Keyser in fifth. Among the other participants, Robert Schroeven (63.64%), Leon Vrancken (60%), and Louis Verheyen (58.82%) achieved impressive prize percentages.
