Last Saturday, thrilling pigeon races took place from Momignies and Soissons in Scherpenheuvel, with numerous participating pigeons and fanciers. Under ideal weather conditions, with plenty of sun and temperatures reaching 24-25 degrees, the pigeons showed their remarkable abilities.
Flight from Momignies
For the flight from Momignies, 35 fanciers collectively basketed 648 old pigeons. The pigeons were released at 9:10 am, and due to strong competition, it promised to be an exciting race. Arien-De Keyser-Kaier from Houwaart started the 2025 season impressively by securing victory with their old pigeon. They clocked their winning pigeon at 10:44:29, achieving a speed of no less than 1393.1438 m/min. With this achievement, they made an immediate strong impression in Scherpenheuvel!
Second place was claimed by Patrick Rubbens from Tielt-Winge, while Leon Vrancken from Scherpenheuvel took third place. Leon achieved an impressive prize percentage of 70%, followed by Leo Berghmans with 60% and Victor Valvelkens with 58.33%. Exciting races are to be expected in the coming weeks!
Championship Standings for Momignies' Old Pigeons
After two races in the championship for short-distance old pigeons, Leon Vrancken is at the top of the championship standings. With 18 points, he holds a two-point lead over Guido Broos and a four-point lead over Louis Verheyen. Once again, Leon demonstrates the quality of his pigeons, and competitors will need to keep an eye on him in the championship!
Flight from Soissons
For the flight from Soissons, 180 old pigeons were basketed by 13 fanciers. The pigeons were released at 8:50 am for the first race of the long-distance category. Victory went to Louis Verheyen from Scherpenheuvel. He clocked his winning old hen at 11:18:33 with a speed of 1375.0320 m/min. Lucien Laevers finished impressively in second place, while the third spot also went to Louis Verheyen. With his team of hens, Louis demonstrated that the pigeons at his loft are in excellent form.
Roger Didden and his son Robby from Messelbroek delivered an extraordinary performance by achieving 100% prize success with their six participating old pigeons. Such an accomplishment is rare and deserving of great admiration—achieving a 100% prize percentage is no easy feat!
Lucien Laevers achieved a prize percentage of 66.67% from Soissons, Louis Verheyen 64.71%, and Guido Broos 50%. The consistency of these fanciers highlights the strength of the competition.
