Last weekend, Scherpenheuvel once again became the gathering place for numerous pigeon enthusiasts who entered their old pigeons for the flights from Momignies and Soissons. In total, 905 old pigeons were entered: 173 for Momignies and 732 for Soissons. Despite the initial morning mist, the weekend proved successful, with impressive performances and surprising victories.

 Momignies: Walter Lambeets Triumphs

The 173 pigeons heading towards Momignies were released at 12:10 PM. It was Walter Lambeets from Aarschot who claimed victory with his pigeon 2072583-2024. With a speed of 1282.1597 m/min, he outperformed strong competitors such as Louis Verheyen from Scherpenheuvel and Geert Van Goolen from Aarschot, who came in second and third respectively. For Walter, this performance marked the perfect start to the 2025 season, winning his very first race of the year.

Additionally, there were outstanding performances by Guido Broos, Louis Verheyen, and Bruno Vrancken, who all achieved a 100% prize rate with their old pigeons. Rudy Van Vlasselaer, Geert Beken, Walter Lambeets, and Gustaaf Vermeir also made their mark with a high percentage of prizes from Momignies.

 Soissons: Robert Schroeven Shines

The 732 pigeons in Soissons were released at 11:40 AM, and expectations were high. Ultimately, it was Robert Schroeven from Scherpenheuvel who claimed the victory. His pigeon 2088700-2024 was clocked at 2:24:25 PM, achieving the win with a speed of 1254.4714 m/min. Willy Nolmans and Gommaire Verbruggen, also from Scherpenheuvel, completed the podium.

Victor Valvekens excelled with a prize percentage of 70%, underlining the strong form of his old pigeons. Unfortunately, Victor faced a disappointing moment when a marten attacked his breeding loft during the night from Friday to Sunday, killing all his breeders. Despite this setback, he performed impressively. Noteworthy results were also recorded by Louis Verheyen, Georges De Keyser, Willy Vanhove, Lucien Laevers, and Patrick Rubbens.

 The 2025 Season Gathers Momentum

Next weekend, the first middle-distance race for old pigeons is on the schedule, signaling the full swing of the 2025 season as we head towards the first national race of the year. Scherpenheuvel promises more guarantees and prizes, thanks to sponsors and enthusiasts who make this possible.
