After a turbulent election period, the Royal Belgian Federation of Pigeon Fanciers (KBDB) officially appointed its new national board on Monday, November 3. Although the elections took place earlier in the summer, the formal appointments had been pending until now. The lead-up to this transition was far from calm: social media played a prominent role in the public debate, with both supporters and critics of the previous board voicing their opinions loudly and clearly.
Discussions on platforms such as Facebook intensified in the weeks before the transition. Criticism was often sharp and personal, targeting not only policies but also individuals. In this tense atmosphere, the group led by Johan De Schouwer entered the KBDB elections as a united front — and succeeded in securing a clear majority of mandates.
However, the elections themselves do not determine the national president. That appointment takes place later, during the national general assembly. On November 3, De Schouwer received the confidence of 13 out of 20 eligible voters, officially confirming his role as the new national president. Outgoing president Pascal Bodengien, who had received the most preference votes during the elections, had to relinquish his mandate with only 7 votes.

With these appointments, the national board is now complete. The coming six years will be crucial in regaining the trust of the pigeon sport community. Expectations are high, and the critical eye of the opposition will be watching closely.
Nevertheless, this fresh start offers opportunities. If calm can return to social media, the path will be clear for a serene and constructive administration. The KBDB stands at the beginning of a new governance cycle — one that will require unity, transparency, and resilience.
